Nora just started holding her neck up. She looks around constantly now, trying to take in everything happening around her. Everything is new to her.
Meanwhile, Niam is about to start kindergarten, and we spent this week backpack shopping, going through the options. Some were cartoonish, covered in characters. Others looked like something an actual student would carry.
One of them is learning to lift her head. The other is picking out the bag he'll carry to his first day of school. Her milestone is quiet. His is loud. Same house, totally different worlds.
As a parent you get a front row seat to all of it, the first time they notice the ceiling fan, the first backpack, the first bus ride. You're the one holding both ends. Usually while also holding a bottle, a juice box, and someone's shoe.
Nobody warns you the real milestone is learning to carry all three without dropping the kid.
